Account book, 1845-1846.

This account book, for the period 1845 to 1846, consists of memoranda concerning business agreements, personal and business accounts, with brief entries relative to visits, the state of his health, and business dealings. The memoranda include copies of agreements made with farmers and laborers concerning borrowing of cattle, drawing of wood, and hiring of apprentices. There are also entries which detail the amount of labor used to cultivate a field, crops produced in the year 1845, and the weight of the parts of dressed beef. The accounts represent cash borrowed, produce sold, salaries paid, cattle purchased, installments made on railroad and bank stock, and taxes paid to the First Congregational Society through Rev. Samuel Clarke (1791-1859). Others who dealt with Taft were John Anthony ( - ) and Paul Whitin (1800-1884).
